Horror Poster Common Conventions




  • These Posters Are All Dark And Freaky.
  • They All Have Red Writing, In Horror Films Red Writing Is Usually A Sign Of Blood,Anger And Violence.
  • The Main Character Is Shown. 
  • Colour Pattern Consists Of Red,Black And White (Sometimes Brown And Greeny Blues.)
  • Black And Grey Is Usually Means Fear Or Being Frightened.
  • They All Show Part Of The Story. e.g Georgie From IT Faced With Pennywise And Laine Being Lifted From Spirits From The Board.
  • The Images Of Horror Films Are Usually Clowns,Dolls And Ghosts.
  • The Text Uses Fonts Which Are Spooky. Like In The IT Poster Ir Looks As If Its Been Scratched On.
  • Some Horror Films Use Slogans As A Way Of Persuading The Reader Into Wanting To Watch It. e.g You'll Float Too.
  • Props In Horror Films Often Include Knives,Balloons And The Ouija Board.
  • Some Use Pathetic Fallacy Such As Making Backgrounds More Moody Like Using Rain And Thunder.
